Tips for Fixing Common Grow Closet Issues

A grow closet provides a clean and elegant way for you to have your own indoor garden for either the hydroponic method or traditional soil based method. For many city folk, this is really the only way for us to have our own garden due to the lack of space in small confines.

Deluxe Grow ClosetOne of the most common problems that occurs, especially during the summer months, is that the plants are getting too hot. This can be easily remedied by moving lights further from the plants. You need to make sure there is sufficient headroom inside the grow closet to allow for these types of adjustments. Another easy thing to to is install an exhaust fan to help get rid of excess heat from inside the grow closet. Also you can install an oscillating fan to avoid still air spots. You do however, want to prevent wind burn by ensuring that the air is not blowing to hard on the leaves of the plants.

Another very common problem is too much moisture. This could promote the growth of molds that damage the plants. It is important to use a hygrometer to measure the relative humidity inside the closet. Its a common practice to place covers over containers that have water in them. Also you want to prevent the nutrient solution from becoming to warm.

You may also encounter the presence of insects and bugs, spider mites in particular. It is advised to check the plants every five days to make sure there are no signs of bugs. If there are, natural pest controls can be used. Other bugs to look out for are springtails, Fungus gnats, and scarid flies.

During the winter months a common problem can be the lack of heat. A good rule to follow is not to draw air from the outside of the house. If possible, do not position your grow closet in a cool area like the garage or uninsulated attic. You will need to monitor the temperatures of your nutrient solution as well.

The common problems encountered when using your grow closet or a grow room can be fixed as long as you remain diligent with monitoring vital factors, such as temperature and humidity.
